Knocked out tooth

If you loose a permanent or adult tooth, please call your emergency dentist in Toronto immediately. If the tooth is put back in place within 10 minutes, it could take root again in your mouth. After 2 hours, the chances less likely to take hold. People may lose a tooth playing sports or in an accident. Try putting in a container of cold milk if you cannot get to the dentist right away.

Common Dental Emergencies

In terms of dental emergencies, we've certainly seen our share! Here are some common dental emergencies and how to handle them.

Toothache

If you are experiencing a toothache, please give us a call. We are open early and late, and will do all we can to fit you into our busy schedule. If you experience pain after hours, please call our main line and leave a voice message and we can get back to you as soon as we open the next day. Until you are able to get to our office, you can take an over-the-counter pain remedy and try holding an ice pack against your face where you are experiencing pain.

Chipped or broken tooth

If you have a chipped or broken tooth, don't worry! In many cases broken teeth can be fixed. Call us if you have broken your tooth and we can have one of our dentists consult you on the issue. If it's a small break, your dentist may use a  filling to fix the tooth. If the break is serious, a root canal may be required and therefore, could also need a crown.

Call us to book your emergency dental appointment.

Badly bitten lip or tongue

Badly injuring your lip or tongue may also be considered a dental emergency. If there is bleeding, press down on the part of the mouth that is bleeding.

If your lip is swollen, use an ice pack to keep the swelling down until you can reach the dentist. If the bleeding does not stop, go to Emergency at a hospital right away.

Something stuck between teeth

Common things that can be stuck between your teeth. Some foods like popcorn kernels, pieces of meat and corn may cause this issue. Try using dental floss to remove the object.

If you are unable to remove the object, we will help remove it for you. Never poke between your teeth with anything sharp that can damage your gums or scratch the tooth surface.

Lost filling

You may also reach out to your Toronto dentist for emergency dental services if you have lost a filling. Put a piece of softened sugarless chewing gum in the spot where the filling was lost.

This will protect the area for a short period of time. See a dentist as soon as possible. Contact the team at Royal York Dental in Toronto for your emergency dental services.
